Hand stitched all silk Suzani on a Brown/Aubergine silk ground. This Aquatic themed Suzani from Uzbekistan contains 5 large medallions filled with fish in the "Circle of Life" or "Fish Pond" motif representative of female fertility, and 7 smaller medallions filled with birds symbolizing protection, and male virility. This exuberant suzani depicts fish, birds, Botem "teardrops", pinwheels, and scrolling floral motifs throughout with a delineated border of birds and fish. The silk threads are shades of blue, red, brown, rust, salmon, pink, teal, green, white and yellow with flicker stitches adding depth and movement to this exquisite suzani.
